Tom Plachta began his award winning career as a lawyer as Associate Director, Detroit Recorders Court Misdemeanor Defender Office in 1974. There, he represented over 5000 clients, winning acquittals and dismissals on an almost daily basis. He then was a partner in Campbell & Plachta (Detroit), specializing in murder cases. He won acquittals for first degree murder and other homicide charges, as well as victories in cases ranging from rape to drug offenses. In 1979, he became Chief Assistant Prosecutor for Isabella County. Again, was successful in additional thousands of cases. He was appointed special prosecutor in nearly a half dozen cases in other counties, for murders and other crimes. In 1986, Tom opened Plachta Law Office PC, in Mt. Pleasant. He has represented clients in federal courts in Detroit, Cincinnati, Ann Arbor, Kalamazoo, and Grand Rapids, as well as in the United States Supreme Court. Tom also represented clients in state court, for trials and appeals, throughout Michigan. He was admitted to the Michigan Bar in 1974; the Eastern Federal District of Michigan in 1974; Western Federal District of Michigan in 1976; the US 6th Circuit in Cincinnati in 1976. Tom has been acknowledged for a number of years by Marquis WHOS WHO IN AMERICAN LAW as one of the best in the nation. He belongs to the American Bar Association, National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers, American & Michigan Trial Lawyers Associations, and other professional groups.
